March is National Nutrition Month®! Nutrition plays a critical role in achieving our fitness goals. A well-balanced diet provides the necessary fuel our bodies need to perform and recover. Here are four nutrition tips to support your fitness journey:
Try to have a variety of foods on your plate, including lean proteins, complex carbs and healthy fats. This ensures you’re getting the nutrients, vitamins and minerals you need for exercise and recovery. A colorful plate is a healthy and balanced plate!
Using a food-tracker app or keeping a food diary can help you monitor what you’re eating. Record your meals, snacks and beverages for an accurate reflection of your daily diet. Tracking your eating habits allows you to adjust your portion sizes to be the best fit for you.
Understanding food labels and ingredients is crucial for making informed choices. Be mindful of added sugars, saturated fats and excessive sodium in the foods you consume. Review the ingredients list on your favorite snacks to see if they are a healthy fit for you.
Whole foods include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, healthy fats and more. Aim to include a variety of whole foods in your diet and try to limit processed and packaged foods. Whole foods at mealtime and in daily snacks can make a big impact on your nutrition.
By utilizing these tips, you’ll be better equipped to support your fitness goals and overall well-being. Remember that you don’t have to adjust your eating habits all at once. Make small, informed decisions regarding your eating habits and build up to bigger changes – your future self will thank you. Happy National Nutrition Month!
